Heya hot saucers,
It’s hard to believe Merfs Condiments is 4 years old; we owe much of our success to our dedicated Merfs’ enthusiasts: hot sauce lovers, spice freaks, cat ladies, suburban families, hipsters, and all you other folks! We are looking forward to connecting with each of you by creating and maintaining a new blog for the website. We’ll be writing weekly posts featuring recipes with Merfs’ hot sauce, relevant Denver food news, hot sauce news, and all the latest from the Merfs’ production team. We’ll be doing giveaways and contests—so if you want free Merfs’ merch and hot sauce, check back weekly for updates.
2018 just started, but we are already rocking and rolling. We hired a full-time production manager in January, and boy, what a huge milestone! It’s an honor to have enough work for two people full time (y’all will meet Katie below). We kicked off February with a fancy new website, and we’d like to give a shout out to Jen Conley at Brink Design and Nils Satterstrom with Satter9Designs for hooking it up!
Though I was hired as the production manager, I am looking forward to writing, running, and maintaining Merfs’ weekly blog. I thought I would start it off by introducing myself and sharing a little bit about what brought me to Merfs Condiments. I’m originally from a small island off the East Coast, and I moved to Colorado 7 years ago in search of some Rocky Mountain adventures. I am passionate about outdoor recreation, and this passion turned into a career in conservation in Colorado.
How’d I get from the conservation to Merfs Condiments? Well, if there’s one thing I love as much as the mountains, it’s food! My first job as a kid was picking pints of blueberries for my grandma to sell at her farm stand. Growing up, I was always working on some food project or another: foraging wine berries to make fresh jams and meads, fermenting everything in my crock, and even making a few batches of hot sauce one summer when my garden exploded with chilies. When I met Kelly this winter and was offered the opportunity to work for Merfs, it was a no brainer. I still remember the first time I bought Merfs’ hot sauce at the South Pearl Street Farmer’s Market in Denver, and now I get the privilege of making it! Talk about coming full circle! I am super excited to learn the business, and it’s incredible that this is my full-time gig. So nice to meet y’all.
